Q
What does DIG do?
A
DIG helps sick/disabled people and their carers by giving information
and advice on Welfare Benefits, including help with the completion
of claim forms. When you phone the office the Adviser will ask
for details of your illnesses/disabilities and your income. We
can usually deal with most enquiries by phone. If an appointment
is required for forms completion, this will be arranged (either
face to face or by phone). Wherever possible the same Adviser
will deal with you throughout.
We
also provide Benefits Advice to patients in the Western General
Hospital, Edinburgh. Talks are given to groups of sick and disabled
people and carers in the community and to professionals working
in the disability field in order to promote take-up of benefits
as well as the DIG service.
Working
in Partnership
DIG
received funding from Macmillan Cancer Support for 3 years until
September 2007, in order to develop services for cancer patients.
Although this funded project has now ended, DIG continues its
work with those affected by cancer and their carers.
We
also had funding from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland until
June 2007 to further develop our services for disabled people
in Fife. As a result of this project, many more people have
used our services to maximise their income.
