About Us
Disablement
Income Group Scotland (or DIG Scotland for short), was founded
in 1966 by the late Dr. Margaret Blackwood, MBE. She was disabled
at a time when there were no State benefits for disabled people.
Through her tireless campaigning, Dr. Blackwood and her friends
pressurised the government into introducing specific disability
benefits, for example Attendance Allowance and Invalidity Benefit
(now replaced by Incapacity Benefit).
Once
this aim was achieved, DIG then gradually moved towards a free
Welfare Benefits Information and Advisory service to assist disabled
people and carers to access and claim these benefits.
DIG responds
to thousands of enquiries annually and gains over £5 million
in benefits for clients.
